Hormones in Reproduction
نویسنده
چکیده
Nc ORMAL reproduction and lactation in domestic animals are regulated by hormones, a group of chemical materials that are secreted by the ductless or endocrine glands directly into the blood stream. The blood carries these chemical messengers to the parts of the body where they produce their effects. Of the endocrine glands, the pituitary is the most important. In the cow it is about the size of an acorn and is located at the base of the brain. It has two main parts, the anterior and posterior pituitary. It is complex, the anterior portion secreting at least six hormones that affect sexual development and lactation; the posterior part secretes another hormone. The pituitary regulates the activity of the other endocrine glands. The ovary—an endocrine gland—secretes the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. It also produces the egg, or ovum, that, when fertilized, develops into a new individual. The testis manufactures the sperm and the male sex hormone, testosterone. From the adrenal gland arises the adrenal cortical hormones. The thyroid secretes the hormone thyroxine. A great deal of work has been done in recent years to determine the fundamental action of the hormones and to apply the findings to practical problems on the farm. There are also synthetic—that is, laboratory-made—hormones. Two substances, known as diethylstilbestrol (or stilbestrol) and hexestrol and some of their derivatives, while not related chemically to estrogen, have the same general effect but are several times more potent. They arc also much cheaper than natural estrogen and have been used to replace estrogen for several purposes. A material containing the thyroid hormone, thyroxine, has also been produced by adding iodine to casein under

Objective(s): The purpose of this study was to investigate the change in plasma anandamide (AEA) levels throughout the normal menstrual cycle, and to analyze the relationship among AEA, sex steroids and gonadotrophins. Materials and Methods: The patients were fertile women with normal menstrual cycle, proposed to get in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment due to oviduct obstruction or male infe...
متن کاملThe changes in stress indices and some steroid hormones of Cyprinus carpio broodstocks in different stages of artificial reproduction
Blood is directly involved in many metabolic processes, and blood and hormonal assessments can be helpful in diagnosing the physiological status of fish. In this study, changes in stress indices (glucose and cortisol) and steroid hormones (testosterone, estradiol and progesterone) of sea carp broodstocks in three stages, before hormone injection, after injection and after artificial reproducti...

The aim of the project is to assay the effectiveness of different values ofLHRH-a2 combined with carp pituitary extract in 3-stages way on reproduction indices of Arabibarbus grypus that belong to Cyprinidae family and is a native fish in Khuzestan province. Fifty individuals of fish in 4 treatments were studied. Control treatment were injected by 4mg/kg pituitary extracts, first treated: 4mg/k...

Synthetic hormones and bioactive substances (vitamins, pigments and isoflavons) which have been used in the feed industry are accumulated in milk, meat and eggs. It is suspected that these are responsible for a number of side-effects such as carcinogenesis, liver and kidney damage, allergies in consumers. Furthermore the synthetic hormones, vitamins, pigments are less active than those extracte...
متن کاملP-112: Vitamin D and Fertility
Background: Vitamin D has been well-known for its function in maintaining calcium and phosphorus homeostasis and promoting bone mineralization. There is some evidence that in addition to sex steroid hormones, the classic regulators of human reproduction, vitamin D also modulates reproductive processes in women and men. Materials and Methods: This is a review article that were identifical by com...
